Daran Brown, BEng, MEng, Managing Director

Daran was born and raised in 1960's Wales and at the age of 18 attended the University of Cardiff having obtained sponsorship from British Steel. Going on to obtain his Masters and 2:1 Honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Daran was soon recruited into the British Steel graduate training program, within a year he was promoted to the role of a middle manager managing a new £60m project. Daran was then promoted to Manager of Production Operations in British Steel’s Hartlepool Pipe Mill. At 25 Daran became the youngest Senior Manager in British Steel.

After 11 years at British Steel, 1994 saw a change for Daran who then moved on to work for Delphi (part of General Motors) working in their Southampton Plant as Production Manager, within the year Daran was promoted to Managing Director. Over the years Daran has worked for Anderton International Limited ( the largest manufacturer of circlips in the world), Arthur Shaw and Erlson Engineering Limited as Managing Director.

2004 saw Daran changing direction by taking on the role of Managing Director at School Trends and has now been here for over 10 years. Daran cites his reasons for staying is because of the atmosphere of the company which is different from most other companies.

“As an employee-owned, community company our employees care about us and this reflects in their job and with our customers. Our customers receive long-lasting, quality products at great value against our competitors and we always use what our customers say to continually improve our offer in the future.”

 

Louise Wills, FCIPD - HR Director

Louise started her career working for Boots Retail having worked both in store and at Head Office undertaking a myriad of roles from a retail assistant, supervisor, trainer and then to personnel officer. Qualifying in HR in 2001, Louise then joined School Trends as HR Officer in 2003. Since then Louise progressed through the company as HR Manager in 2009, Head of HR in 2009 and HR Director in 2013.

Louise cites her reasons for working at School Trends is due to the Community atmosphere, everyone works together to make it a great place to work, going that extra mile because it's employee owned.

“I get great job satisfaction from working with great people, it’s also a really fun place to work. We all work really hard and don’t take ourselves too seriously.”

Louise hopes that School Trends continues to provide great products to customers, to exceed expectations through listening to what our customers want and to be a great place for employees to work and develop themselves.
